I still want to believe that this whole thing is an elaborate joke, but it appears it is not.

Would you drink civet shit coffee?

I did and was not impressed. But again I've tried most of the real fancy/expensive/highly-ranked coffees.

I think I'm just not cut out to be a coffee connoisseur.

It's not new to me. But the article is still pretty interesting, and really points up the absurdity of it all. A bunch of poor third world farmers going "Really? Americans will pay hundreds of dollars for us to pick up animal shit, so they can drink it?"

I was surprised to see a poster for civet coffee at a coffee stall in the Baguio City market (Philippines) last year. This was a place with large bags of different kinds of coffee which they ground for you and put into paper bags. While Baguio City is a resort town, I didn't see many Americans there.

I used to have a Jack Russell terrier who would eat absolutely anything. Maybe I should have started a Jack Russell.......I mean a civet coffee business.

I drank it... meh.

Admittedly the shop in LA I tried it at wasn't turning this stuff over fast enough, so it might be better fresh.

The secretions of the anal gland of the civit are used in several colognes and perfumes, so if you're not drinking it you may be wearing it. Chanel No. 5, Kouros, Obsession, etc.

Tried it a few years back, at the height of my quasi-Aspergerian obsession with coffee. It's really nothing special. Tastes a little muddy, and I didn't want to dwell too heavily on that thought.
