That's really impressive. I respect that a lot, but I would have taken the money. My morality is very lax though and I really don't have principles.

Calling penalties on oneself isn't that unusual in golf. In fact its the norm. That said, this was a pretty extreme case. My guess is that there were a large number of players out there that might not even have known this was a rule.

One reason that I love golf is that it's the only sport (Yes...I said it) that requires complete knowledge of and honesty regarding the rules. In lots of sports there are techniques for committing rules violations, but concealing it from the official...and if it isn't called, it didn't happen.

Golf sets the bar much higher. I for one am glad.

Me too. I'm just learning to play golf, and I think the fact that this type of stuff seems to be the norm in the game is really cool.

Do you guys actually think Tiger would do this? I say no way.

Just to clarify, he wasn't in a position to win, either. He was hitting out of a hazard, after missing the green. Would have been very lucky to make par. The article didnt mention Furyk being in trouble, so presumably, he would made par.

it's one of those things.. where it willl eat away at you, was your career a sham? will someone unknowningly go back into the archives and reveal 'hey, this guy should have been penalized, he shouldnt have been here'

- This is in perfect keeping with the way golf is. It's just the way it's played. - With TV coverage being what it is, there's little chance this would have gone totally unnoticed, and if it hadn't, he would have had to deal with some very uncomfortable, and potentially very damning questions. Early in his career, Vijay Singh was banned from the Asian PGA Tour for cheating. Not just DQ'ed - he was suspended. And for a while, he was treated with suspicion on the US Tour because of this. Golf does not smile on pros taking liberties with the rules. - That doesn't take away from the fact that I respect what he did.
