New iPhone (6/2010) - Page 3

I do agree that there is a very high likelihood this was a PR stunt.

I think it was an honest mistake by that engineer. Viral campaigns are only used by companies that can't get attention on a similar scale any other way. Apple these days can say just about anything with conventional means, and get MSM as well as the tech blogs up in a tizzy. Look at how excited they all get when Apple announces a press conference or townhall meeting.

No doubt in my mind a ploy to create interest. Pretty effective one too IMO.

Ditto. I was almost going to get the 3GS. Now I'm glad I didn't, the iPhone 4 is going to be, for lack of a better word, sick.

Unless you really, really need a phone right this moment you'd be an idiot IMO to buy an iPhone this close to June since Apple has released their phones in June every year.

So looking at your own reaction, do you think it was the rational thing for Apple to leak the next-gen iPhone? It would have been an act of monumental stupidity if they had done this on purpose.

Depends on what they are planning on selling the new one for. Seems like a lot of people are lining up to suckle the iTeat. As usual. FWIW, I don't think this was done "on purpose".

I dont think so.

Apple has never done anything like that before. I think its likely GIZ has some insider who gave them a prototype, and the bar was just a cover story either for legal reasons, or to cover for their source.

If Apple did want to make a PR stunt, they would have come up with a less suspect story than "dropped in a bar lol."

But once again, pretty much anyone with a grain of sense can predict that there will be a new iPhone this Summer. You didn't need a leak for that.

Agreed. I don't think so either.

Apple doesn't need a leak to generate hype for their products. The gadget blogs and other news outlets more than do it for them already.

The person who lost the phone has been identified. They don't have some hidden source that they have to cover for. Buddy's probably going to lose his job over this I'd bet.

Apple has no reason to generate interest in the iPhone of all products.

WWDC is less than 2 weeks away, hopefully they announce the iPhone 4G and then release it post haste.
