I'm in the market for a nice Walnut shoe. I like the look of both of these shoes a lot, and they're relatively the same price. Which would you guys suggest as a better shoe? Also which would probably be sleeker? Thanks

No experience of AE, but i think the consensus is that quality wise there's nothing really in it.

The Loake is slightly sleeker, but they're both nice enough looking.

If you're going for the Loake, have a look on www.pediwear.co.uk - generally the Loake branded shoes work out cheaper than the CT branded shoes.

With my experience with AE and Loake, I would go for Loake..

I'm wearing Strands right now. Love 'em and wouldn't change my decision to purchase them. They have a few more embelishments than the Loakes. In fact, I think the Loakes almost identacle to AE Evanstons. Check those out- there are usually tons on ebay. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories

Discounted Allen edmonds are much more common than Loakes. If you can find at least a 20% discount for the Strands, they would be my pick. I have the strands and have no regrets getting them. On build quality, I would put them on par.

The Tyrwhitt/ Loakes seem to be on the capital last. They would be sleeker than the AEs. Perhaps a suggestion would be to buy based on your location, i.e. AEs if you happen to be in USA or Loakes if in UK. This will simplify your fitting of the correct size and future re-crafts.

Thanks for the input everyone. My only problem with AE's is that I have a pretty small foot. I'm a big guy (6'2 200lbs) and the AE 10D fits my foot perfectly but looks like way to small with my suit, if that makes sense. I've only tried to Park Avenue though so their other lasts could be different.

The Strand is built on the same last as the PA. And personally I love my Strands, one of my favorite AE models.

I do like the AE Strand, but I find it looks a bit busy in smaller sizes, i.e. there's a whole of brogueing and gimping crammed into that shoe. The 2 rows of stitching along the toecap appear to be spaced wider than on other semi brogues, which may contribute to this effect. That said, I'd vote for the Strand over the CT linked. I own both Loake 1880s and AEs and while Loake may edge out AE for styling and last shape, my AEs feel more solidly built. And fwiw, the #5 last works great for me.

My vote goes to the Strand.

However, I'm a little biased because the AE 5 last looks very good on me and fits like a glove.

Either would be a good choice, but I agree with the others in saying that if you can find the Strand discounted, then go for it.

Check out Bennie's at http://www.benniesshoes.com/strand-276.html. They've got them at 15% off right now. I hadn't been able to find a better deal in my size (11d) for 2 months, and pulled the trigger last week. Shipping was included and I received the shoes in NYC within 3 days.

Ummm I am 6'2" and 210 with a 10.5 size shoe...and no, it doesn't make any sense. Perhaps you should stop wearing suits with parachute pants.

Self conscious about your miniature feet? It's nothing to be ashamed of. Many great men throughout history have had tiny feet- mind you they weren't 6'2" and 210lbs. But, maybe I'm getting focused on the wrong details.

Consider Tricker's too ... very underrated here:

Kensington in beechnut calf ...

Belgrave in Acorn calf:

^^^ Good call on those, sri.

Comparable quality to AE and Loake, and those Belgraves are pretty sick.

"Comparable quality to AE and Loake"? Those Trickers are much better than anything Loake or AE has to offer.
