A question about shirt sleeve measurement re: double cuffs

I am looking online at British shirts and most of them come no shorter than a 33 sleeve in any neck size. I find this strange.

Are they measuring the sleeves with the double cuff unfolded all the way out, or are they measuring from a different starting point than the Americans?

Or is it standard with British shirts to buy that lenght and shorten if necessary?

Thanks!

No, they would normally measure in the same fashion as American companies - to the point where the cuff ends as the shirt is worn (that is, with the french cuff folded up). What site are you looking at? Are you maybe looking at a clearance sale or something where inventory would be limited?

you know that sleeve length is measured from the center of the collar (not from the shoulder), right?

Tyrwhitt and Lewin both have multiple sleeve lengths.

The single length thing is done by a number of shirtmakers - it annoys me, as my neck size (16") invariably comes with a 34 or 35 sleeve, and i usually need a 36 (I'm almost 6'1", but have a wide reach).

I know that I had to have the sleeves on all of my TM Lewins shortened because they were all an inch too long. TM Lewin shortened mine before they were shipped, so now they fit great.

I usually take a 32-inch sleeve and that is very easy to find around here, which is why I was confused. I was looking and New & Lingwood and also Harvey and Hudson and it seems that they only offer that on some of their lines. I am 5'9", which I assume is also a common height in Britain, and it seems funny to me that they don't offer 32 as a common sleeve length.
