The questions about "bought something you couldn't afford" and "has this ever affected your relationships" are actually some of the more important questions, from a psychological perspective. Psychology draws a lot of very critical distinctions between compulsive behavior and addiction at the point where the behavior becomes destructive. A compulsion becomes an addiction when it not only can't be controlled, but significantly interferes with the person's life, relationships, etc. If you compulsively buy things you can't actually pay for, that's part of an addiction. If you just buy a lot of shit that you regret, and it adds up over time, but it doesn't destroy your life or your finances, that's just unfortunate impulse control.
