Eating at your desk in the office

Lately, I have a box of cereal at my desk that I mix up with milk from the coffee station in a big coffee mug. My cube neighbor makes popcorn everyday in the microwave. My other cube neighbor regulary keeps bananas at her desk on a hanger.

How far is too far when it comes to eating at your desk?

I keep nuts and granola bars in a drawer. If I bring in a piece of fruit I put it in the drawer until I eat it later on that day (if I remember it's there...)

I eat lunch at my desk 90% of the time. Usually browsing SF as I eat.

What do you mean by "too far"? People have lunch at their desks all the time. I may stow an apple or banana at my desk, a few cans of tuna for days I forget lunch. Currently I have: a box of green tea, ziplock bag of oatmeal, an apple. Eating baby carrots right now. The popcorn everyday would get annoying coz of the smell.

Durian. That's too far.

I eat out for lunch - 4 of 5 times at a sit down place but there are occassions where I have back to back meetings and little time to prepare. I find munching on a sandwich at the desk demoralizing plus food tends to get on the keyboard or mouse.

I do note other people who bring some heavily spiced curry dishes, reheated seafood (think anchovies). One time I opened up the freezer part of the fridge and found a few previously live crabs in there. Seeing as our office only has a microwave and a toaster, I'm not sure what to make of it.

I bring my lunch to work 95% of the time cause its healthier and cheaper, therefore I eat at my desk almost daily. It sucks, but whatever. I also want to get out early and it helps not having that lunch hangover.

I have a snack drawer too, nuts, tea, granola, etc... nothing major.

^ No lunch or break room at your office?

I eat lunch at my desk every single day. As do most others here.

Leftover fish is gross smelling and it permeates everywhere. We avoid that.

I have a bar fridge in my office that I stock with Carlsberg and an array of fruit and dairy products.

Eating out takes too much time and usually makes it harder to continue working on my morning agenda. I usually bring almonds and cottage cheese (I don't want to associate my cubical with food--it might ruin it). There was this weird pea soup trend a few months ago, the entire office smelled of reheated ham and peas for at least 3 hours a day. Thankfully, they got bored and moved on to greener pastures (i.e., discovered an Italian place nearby that serves cheap wine with lunch).

More importantly, your use of the phrase "cube neighbor" is extraordinarily depressing. There's something about it that is just really unnerving in a soul-crushing sort of way.

My office is split 50/50 between people who eat in and people who eat out. Often, those who stay make microwaveable lunches. A few weeks ago, some genius burned his in the microwave, setting off all the smoke alarms and filling the floor with smoke. It stank for 5 hours. :\\ I snack in my office but am terrible about getting crumbs everywhere. I even jammed my shift key with a bread crumb once.
