Assuming it's not something they were shopping for in the first place...

 

The impulse big-sale buy is not a matter of acquiring a high value item they'll need later at a bargain price today.

 

No, the consumer is spending money in exchange for the feeling, right now, of saving big. The joy of a bargain. The item is secondary, the feeling is what we just paid for.

 

You wouldn't know that from the way people selling things act, but that's what we buy.

I buy most of my stuff on sale. There's not much I see that is MUST have, especially for whatever the price is. I have a basic level corporate job so I'm already spending too much as is, and with how the clothing market is today, there's such a crazy amount of stuff that does eventually go on sale. If that means missing some stuff ocassionally, so be it, helps me make smarter decisions.

Anyone who says they also don't get a little thrill like feeling from a) seeing how low a piece they've bookmarked will drop or b) rushing a site like mr. p or tbs when a big sale hits and seeing what they can kop before its bought out of their basket is c) a liar or d) responsible in a way the first two aren't going to relate with.
