Could this watch pass for a decent timepiece without looking too close?

Hi, I'm trying to find a cheap watch to complement some of my nicer clothing. However, I don't want to spend more than $100 on it at this point in time. I've been looking around, but could never find anything I liked... I saw this watch tonight. It looks somewhat classic... Now, ideally, I'd prefer something very understated and elegant without any sophisticated dials etc. I realize, that this is a cheap POS, excuse my french, but could it work with a suit? Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks! P.S. It's about 45 bucks shipped if that is of any significance.

that thing will probably last you a few months... better to just buy a well made and understated seiko than that.

I am not a fan of this watch!
Try to get a nice used watch instead.

What is 'nicer' clothing? If you are wearing Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, Banana Republic, etc, that watch might fly. If not, and you are wearing anything that would be respected on this forum, save your money for a bit and buy a nicer watch. I've always liked nice watches, and while I am not able to afford $4000 watches like many of the high rollers on here, $200 is about as low as i'll go.

45 bucks shipped for an American watch with a Swiss movement (probably one of the lower-end ETA as found in Flik-Flak, Swatch or whatever).

Yes, it would work with a suit; you seem to know what it is you are purchasing so if you like the styling, go for it. We could argue this until the cows come home but similarly priced Seiko are no better.

If it was me, I would probably look for a pre-owned Tissot for not a great deal more money.

I know Big 5 Sporting Goods sells watches like that. They have a Lucien Picard one that they seem to have on sale lately. $125 for only $25. I'm pretty sure its just like some other watch brands I know of. I know Lucien Picard used to be a good brand but like mant older american brands like Jules Jurgensen not as good as they used to be. If you can get one these watches for a cheap price then it should be OK. Your watch should be much better than any designer watch that says Kenneth Cole, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, etc.

The watch itself is passable, but the wristband gives the game away (and then some). Spend $25 or whatever on the watch, and the same amount on a replacement wristband.

"Nicer" clothing means it fits me well and looks good. If a Calvin Klein suit looks great on you, then who would ever tell it's not a RLBL?

Thanks for your advice guys! I hate to buy cheap things myself, but sometimes it's worth it. Maybe I'll buy the watch and change the wristband.

Acecow if you're looking for the layman's opinion...

I know nothing about watches. If you told me it was a $400 watch, I wouldn't know any different, and would believe you. I don't know this Lucien Picard, but it's written nice and fancy and Captain Picard had a fancy accent, so it must be fancy.

So I say it successfully passes the general audience test swimmingly.

How about this Seiko (model: SNX115K)? You'll need to buy the strap separately.

Pic is not mine.

There is also a white-faced model (SNX111K) (again, pic not mine):

In any case, there are plenty of Seikos that can be had for far under $100.

the face isn't bad but the embossed strap leaves a lot to be desired.
