It is not, far from it. Fritti is about as close as you'll get to the real thing in Atlanta.

Why do you say that? I'm honestly curious. Granted, I've never been to Naples.

I like Fritti (haven't been in several years, though) but prefer Varasano's.

Varasano's pies are:

- American sized pies
- Sauce is way too complicated (spices, etc)
- Too much cheese
- Crust is overwhelming (takes up too much diameter of the pie and not crunchy enough)

Eat Fritti and than Varasano's back to back...

There is a small chain of restaurants in Seattle that also uses this certification. I have eaten their pizza, and it is pretty good, but I haven't been to Naples so I can't say if it is authentic. I am hoping someone will know about this certification and what it really means. This is the website for that certifier: http://www.pizzanapoletana.org/

That said, I still think Chicago style is the best.

VERACE PIZZA NAPOLETANA

Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN) is what Neapolitans quite literally call the perfect pizza.

Fearful that the traditional pizza would soon be lost to cheaper ingredients and faster methods, a group of faithful Neopolitans formed an association to preserve the authentic Neapolitan pizza. And so the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana was born and with the support of the Italian government a long list of exacting specifications was created to define this perfect pizza.

Now a rigorous certification process is required by any restaurant wishing to serve this delicious dish. There are only a handful of establishments in the entire United States that have earned this distinction and we are proud to announce that Cavalli Pizza is the first and only restaurant in the entire state of Texas to have this honor.

I was just about to ask that. But it's not a proper restaurant, right -- just takeout?

It is a proper restaurant, just not a very comfortable one. It has the best pizza in Atlanta.

Frank Pepe in New Haven CT is the best pizza I've had. There is always a long line out the door for good reason.

Try Franco Manca. Ive only been to the one in brixton market but it was decent, and cheap.

They have a new one now, somewhere north, too north for me though. timeout did a feature recently on the best pizza in london. i forget who won. franco manca has won in the past though

BTW went to Fritti last night, didn't seem to be as good as it was the last time I was there. Will have to return for more investigation soon.
