Trash Talking in Sports! - Page 2

i dont much anymore, just play pick up games so i just like to get out and play. When i was in my teens i use to. Now that im older (23) i really dont care. If i banter with someone its all in fun, it usually becomes a contest of who scores more.

However in certain sports, such as boxing i enjoy it. Some guys have a knack for trash talking that makes it funny.

losing in chess is the worst thing ever. it basically affirms that if you lost... you were tricked/are stupider/overall inferior... nothing positive comes of it. it hurts on so many levels... so its fun to see someone kinda die inside while losing and being trashtalked into losing... teheeheee..

oh yeah i agree. seriously, chess is one of the few games where you seriously dont want to lose. losing is just painful for the ego and it really tests your ability to show sportsmanship.

this is the reason why there are alot of chess clubs for children and teens. lot of it to teach sportsmanship and character.

ever play on yahoo chess? it can really test your sportsmanship when you play against people who make some really uncalled for remarks.

at least between my brother and i it is all in fun. we play, he gets mad, then we go get some turkey.

yahoo internet reversi is much faster and still needs lots of thought. i quit playing chess in my 20's... its too draining.

still its fun to talk trash even in internet reversi... i usually play the speed games (to weed out the cheaters using programs).

Chess?

Are you SERIOUS (Channeling Johnny Mac)?

If I end up playing a sport I'm not particularly good at, trash talking becomes the focus. Because if you're not that good at something, then it comes off more as funny, less like a douche. And you're just joking around having a good time. However if it's something I'm good at and we're doing it competitively, I keep my mouth shut and play, unless of course it's friends, in which case trash talking is important as well.
