there's a line around the block at our neighborly starbucks to get free coffee/with your own mug day..

assuming your rate/hr. is a plebeian $200, how do you save on a $7 coffee by standing on line for 45 minutes?
By doing it while on the clock?

Actually, I just sent my unpaid intern to stand in line for me .

I don't know about the USA, but over here in the UK, all the coffee coffee chains employ young attractive girls, who aren't afraid to flirt That alone is enough to entice many. Add a free coffee, even though we all know that Costa and Cafe Nero taste better, and you have a guaranteed queue.

Kinda sad how little they value the time they have left.

Pretty sure not that many people in new york actually manage to manage to make 200/hr or even close.

a) It doesn't matter what you make per hour. No one who is paid by the hour is waiting in line, with the possible exception of lawyers. It's all people who are salaried. In which case the time value of money does not apply. As usual, because the whole concept is theoretical masturbation that is completely inapplicable in most real world settings.

b) People are morons and are not rational. This is why microeconomics is all bullshit as well. But put aside the value of time. Just the idea of waiting in line for a half hour for a crappy cup of coffee is ridiculous. But slap a "free" on something and Americans get instant wood.

c) However, it is a very good excuse to get out of the office if you aren't particularly busy.

you should be out there telling them this, instead of telling us. Tell them they're cheap, fucking, losers. See what they say, you might actually convince them that they ARE wasting they're time. Same with the fat people, don't be scared to ask them what the fuck they are doing weighing 300 pounds.

Opportunity missed to go shout at them "get back in the office and make some GDP!"
