How do you feel about Cilantro - Page 5

I don't like cilantro. It tastes like soap to me, and it also gives me a metallic mouth sensation as if I'm chewing aluminum foil. If it's used sparingly in a dish where I'd expect to find it with some other spices in there to cover it, I don't get too upset about it. But I've noticed in the last few years that some people think large amounts of it should be put in EVERYthing. If you're one of those, please, for the love of god, just stop.

I absolutely love fresh (!) cilantro and use it a lot, since I'm a big fan of thai cuisine. One of my favorite dishes that contains a lot of cilantro is Yum Nuea/Nüa ( Spicy Beef Salad ) and can be seen here: http://www.thaifoodtonight.com/thaif...es-YumNua.html If you like thai food, this salad will literally leave you breathless...

It's pretty addictive stuff though man, once you get to liking it and you're eating a dish that calls for cilantro, you need a lot of it.
I used to love a good chicken vindaloo, where they would stir in and wilt just a little bit of in there... but after so many years, I've gotten to the point where I need whole mountain of it on top to ensure that I get some cilantro in every spoonful. When I make curry at home it ends up looking like this:

Cilantro is fantastic. As far as cheap and ubiquitous herbs go, cilantro crushes parsley.

Those are dishes that call for cilantro. As an anti-cilantrite I know it will be there, and I stay away, so you people can do whatever you want with them.

What I really object to are things like cilantro on my pizza, cilantro baked into bread, cilantro on my salad, cilantro in my soup - all when I didn't ask for it, and it never used to be there. It's as if anywhere there might have been a bit of parsley before just for decoration there is now cilantro. Are people's senses so deadened that they don't realize one of these things has a taste that overpowers everything, and one doesn't? They're not interchangeable, ffs.

The insanely strong averse reaction some people have to cilantro is the same one I have to hops. Anytime it is used in any way that isn't incredibly subtle or balanced, it overpowers everything else in my mouth and leaves this disgusting texture and soapy taste. I truly do not understand all the homebrew/craftbrew hopheads.

love it. eat the leaf, stem, root and seed.

surprised there is such an adverse reaction to it. i couldnt imagine south east asian food without it.

They're a lot like the capsaicinoid fiends who insist on blistering their mouths. Both of these have a standardized measuring system (IBU/SHU) that allows people to brag... or measure their progress as they destroy their ability to appreciate subtle and complex flavors.
