The phrase "
res ipsa locquitir" is a good one to use. It translates as "the thing speaks for itself" and is used in legal situations where the plaintiff can't show actual cause, but there is no other way it could have happened. For example, if a patient goes to a hospital, is anesthetized, and wakes up with the wrong leg amputated. No doctor will admit to the botched surgery, but the hospital is found guilty anyway because there is no other way the patient's leg could have been cut off.
I've used it when interviewing people suspected of fraud as a way to explain to them that they are guilty and have no defense.
