I went to the FB on Conn. Avenue on Friday. I received via email on Friday morning a 20 percent off coupon. The designer stuff was already 40 percent off, and you could add the 20 percent coupon on top of that, which I didn't realize all that clearly when I set out. Often the stores prevent you from adding the coupons together. I ended up with a Borrelli shirt for $50. The guy in front of me bought six Borrellis. I also didn't realize that you could bring in as many 20 percent coupons as you wanted and get the discounts.
So I went back with the wife on Saturday, and not surprisingly, the Borrellis were all but cleaned out at Conn. Ave., National Press Club, and Friendship Heights. However, I did end with a pair of Barney's Italian flannel charcoal pants that retailed for $225. With the discounts, I paid $25. I put back a Lora Piano pink button down shirt and a Barney's Italian cashmere sweater. So there's still stuff to be had or at least there was yesterday afternoon. I think they may still be putting some new stuff out.
Anyway a couple of unusual things that bear mentioning. At the FB National Press club you have to look hard for the two racks with the 40 off designer stuff. It's toward the back and not very prominent. However, they have a Dries van Noten 44R suit in pencil striped flannel that might be of interest to someone. Retail $1525, with discounts, $240. I agonized a bit over that one; it's a bit heavy. At FB Conn. Avenue they have a Bruno Cuccinelli Italian cashmere sweater in a lime. Retail $850, with discounts, $75. This was a gorgeous piece of clothing, and I would have bought it in a second were it not a size 2XL. But it's still there for someone who can wear that size.
