I have to call horseshit on this. Ive gone through a 20-rep squat program with working weights over 300 lb, yet my 1rm is under 600 lb. Anyone squatting 800+ just isnt even going to bother with 225 on the bar for anything other than warmups- there is no amount of reps at that weight that would constitute a strength workout.

20 reps at 300?

pretty solid.

i used to PL in a gym in bklyn with holes in the ceiling and no heat. where i built my foundation. all we did was chins, squats, bench, mil press, deads and occasionally dips and cheat curls.

To do real power lifting training you need more than just a basic gym, but this is after you have built up base strength. The power lifting you can do at any gym is to focus on the big three; deadlifts, squats, and bench. Although i don't recommend flat bb bench.

I live near the original Metroflex, where a bunch of bodybuilders and powerlifters train. It's cheap (~$30/month) but I'm kind of intimidated by who'd be there around me.

Wow, imagine training with Branch Warren in the building! Metroflex is truly a hardcore gym, no doubt about that.

I would suggest you wear your best wife beater, some really loud, baggy workout pants and start to do barbell curls in the squat rack. You'll quickly be accepted into a hard-core gym.

Sounds like solid advice

I'm just glad that I currently have free gym membership (uni gym), the really nice ones here sure do cost a lot.
