When is the traditional men's so-called "summer hat" season - referring to straws? I'm referring, of course, to climates that have a fair amount of variation - not San Juan, Puerto Rico. It doesn't seem to me it would be the "Memorial Day to Labor Day" thing (that must be American, anyway) because it used to be the big thing for ladies to wear new "spring hats" (i.e. also straw) for Easter (Passover, too, apparently) which is always long before Memorial Day, and it would seem men's hats would follow a similar pattern.
