Banana Republic is marginally better, if quite expensive.

They make an extra long version available at Target. I actually was looking for a shorter version.

how much do they shrink? if anybody has a medium can they post measurements?

for me fruit of the loom undershirts in a size medium seem to shrink to the perfect fit after a wash, i have no idea if they are already preshrunk like the hanes undershirts seem to be

What is AA?

American Apparel, which many hold to be the standard for fit and quality for t-shirts. Lots of Labels use them for printing.

I work at Club Monaco, and without trying to seem like I'm being biased...I have to agree. I don't even sleep in any other t-shirts than club monaco ones now because they're just so soft. The new t-shirts which came out in the last 2-3 months are not as good as the ones from last year in terms of look (aka the white t-shirt really isn't white), but they're still soft as hell.

What's a good way to get ahold of Club Monaco gear if you don't live near one of the stores?

If the Calvin Klein shirts I ordered don't work I may be interested.

hanes has a couple of lines or shirts...i have two sets of v-necks from them. one of them are "premium" and the other was the hanes "ultimate"...i haven't really worn the premiums yet, because i bought them in medium and they need to be shrunk just a bit, but the ultimates i bought in smalls and they were plenty long enough. i washed one of them and thought i'd ruin it because it'd be tiny, but it stretched nicely after a few minutes and is still plenty long. the hanes ultimate v-neck is my fav so far

oh and i also have fruit of the loom tagless v-necks, which are a bit looser, shorter, and lack a little bit in softness. they are good shirts though, just not quite as great as the hanes, in my opinion

^^ can you post the length and width (at armpits) measurements of ultimate and premium v-necks? I've been meaning to get some basic vnecks but so far have not because I can't open the package and see how they fit. Thanks for your trouble.

Haha, where on earth do you get the Hanes premium and ultimate stuff? I've seen Hanes Perfect Tees before. I guess they have premium, ultimate, and perfect. What a disorganized brand.

Six words: American Apparel, American Apparel, American Apparel. Through their website, a regular tee can run around $15. Shop around at their outlets, ebay, etc. and you'll find better deals. Best deals, though, come from actual screen printers who buy these babies in bulk and sell them practically at wholesale. YQue is where I get mine... I'm an absolute AA convert. I always hated buying a tee and having the small fit like a girl and the medium fit like a dress. The best fit, material, quality, sweatshop-free stuff around. And yes, I'm wearing one now.

I'm not sure if you have access to a Uniqlo store, but if you can, get their t-shirts. They're cheap (i bought them for about 900 yen for a pack of 3; not even ten bucks in US dollars), and very good in quality. I just opened one of my packs, and the fit is surprisingly good. I own both American Apparel and Banana Republic, and I've found my Uniqlo shirts to be superior to the two in quality and fit. BR shirts tend to be too short for my taste, and more often than not I get self conscious when sitting down or bending over, afraid that too much of my briefs might be showing. And, while American Apparel may have an excellent fit, they're much thinner than my Uniqlo t-shirts. For just white crew and v-neck shirts, I'd most definitely suggest you pick up some of Uniqlo's shirts; otherwise, stick with American Apparel over BR. By the way, if you choose AA, your best bang for your buck would definitely be e-bay. I bought 6 shirts on ebay for only 35 bucks.
