Don't know how I missed something like that. Then again, I listen to NPR mostly in the car and at work. Do you remember the time of day you heard it? Right off bat, I'd guess it aired either on Marketplace or All Things Considered, but first...let's do the numbers.

I heard it twice actually… and just yesterday (was it yesterday? whenever I posted that) here in LA. I'll take a look and see if I can find it for you. smile.gif

Fuck if I know it's just not there. The only show I can find is the one on "Sneakerheadz" that was broadcast in August. But that has a male programmer/interviewer and the one I heard was female … which makes me think it may have been Fresh Air, but now I'm not sure. I'll keep looking.

Please do. I'm genuinely curious. NPR's search isn' pulling anything up when I searched "sneaker", "shoe", "fashion", with Heard on air checked. Let me scan through their programs.

It's not the FilmWeek show on the upcoming "Sneakerheadz" movie… but I recall some of the content of the show. The gist of it was how sneakers, that were once a means for the wealthy to indicate the ability to spend leisure time and walk around wearing silly kicks, became the everyman shoe and go-to footwear for children. This followed with a look into the more recent development of the luxury sneaker market and fashionistas, collectors, etc. and how it's kind of come around full circle in a way.

That's the brief synopsis… and it was hosted by a female, so I'm still looking. I may try to email NPR and see if anyone knows what the show was.

Figured out how to break in narrow CP Achilles.

  • 1 tie laces tight and insert plastic bag
  • 2 fill plastic bag with water. Seal
  • 3 put shoes in freezer for the day

Bam. That ice foot stretches out and does 60% of the break in for ya.

Holy shit… crazy and genius at the same time.

won't the shape be unnatural, though

just man up and break them in naturally (the journey itself is part of the appeal after all)

Nah dudes, I'm dead serious.  Worked like a charm.

Wouldn't try it on any cheap glued shoes or anything made of thin, flimsy materials or anything hand made on a last... But on a tough leather sneaker, not much to worry about.

If you want to get into the physics of it, room temperature water will generally increase in volume by about 9.05% when frozen. So not a huge increase, but enough to make a difference. Didn't notice any changes to the silhouette. Anyways, if you get too much stretch, you can always just lace them up tighter.

Pic of them right now.

The fuck is going on with your jeans bro those cuffs Jesus christ

And those socks

Holy shit that looks terrible

You leave my earth tones and cuffs out of this. I'm just trying to show that the ice break-in didn't f*k em up at all.

If "breaking in" your shoes requires what's effectively a stretcher you could also consider going up a size

Yeah totally, if I wanted to feel like I had floppy clown shoes on.  By and large, just not a fan of the narrow + long bias of CP Achilles - but at least the width issue can be fixed. Probably won't buy a second pair. My Butteros, however, fit great from the get-go.
