Yo this is a pretty cool idea, should be a rather simple DIY if you do it in like "layers" (so you don't have to mess with the sole).
Just get a "normal" pair and cut of the whole top except for the lowest 2 cm of the fabric, lay out and copy the piece you just cut off and recreate it in however many "layers" in different colors/material you want, and then sew it back on.

can you explain what you mean by layers?

and I gotta assume cutting off the fabric and trying to re-sew it is probably not a smart idea

Was thinking "layers" like if you saw the sneakers profile-view. So if you wanted 3 "layers" they'd all be 5-7 cm "thick" (converse hi's are about 15-20 cm high right?), for 4 layers they'd each be 3-5 cm and so on.

Just realized though that the statement that it was DIY-able was based on the assumption that the insides of converses aren't lined, but tbh I've never owned a pair so I'm not sure if that's correct

What type of paint should i use to get that effect of those painted converse?

when i first saw that leaked pic a few days ago i thought maybe they could be kinda cool, not as a concept but just instead of plain white chucks. but the more i see them, the more i think the concept, and the price tag attached to it, is just too stupid to get past.

What could've been cool would be like, a beige suede chuck with better finishing coated in paint with a blank patch on the side attached by the four MMM cross stitches. At least then it would be a typical Margiela "interpretation" of the classic design.

apparently they're leather lined if that makes a difference to you guys

For anyone who has the Saint Laurent highs, my right shoe isn't bending properly when I walk and it cuts into my foot, I've tried loosening/tightening the laces but it doesn't seem to have helped. Has anyone else had this problem?
