Funny I think those who like ysl now bc of hedi never looked at it before when it was superior.
I definitely never looked at it much...I have a couple crisp white shirts from them and a bracelet (don't ask), but it wasn't as though PIlati was Mr. Inspiring on the sneaker front (plus made in portugal is a bit disappointing).
Anyway, when I was there, there was this very stark contrast. They have out the F/W collection on sale, and maybe it's because only sale items are remaining, but it was like night and day compared to the new S/S stuff not yet released. I particularly like some of the knitwear, shirts, and hoodies in the new collection. The guys there told me that Hedi did not spend a ton of time on the S/S collection, and that the real deal will be his upcoming F/W...we shall see. A little drama isn't a bad thing to liven up the industry.
Pilati has always been underappreciated on this forum though there was the seasonal posting of his collections in the runway threads (which I do not follow any longer as I do not like that aspect of fashion). At a time when there wasn't much to look at I would pop in to the ysl store and always find several things I wanted. Some were reasonably priced while other were not but there was no denying the evolutionary classicness that Pilati instilled each season that maintained relevance without all the gimmicks/fluff that Hedi brings. I could see how fashion bois would go apeshit over the new stuff but it doesn't have lasting appeal like older ysl and again I don't really consider him a real designer but more of a one trick pony.
