Do You See a Lot of Heavy People In Your City?

Yes, I'm being PC using the word "Heavy". And I'm not trying to be deliberately condescending. In LA, it's a rare occurrence. Lots of guys with beer guts, a fair share of girls who shouldn't wear tight clothes, but not many people who need a motorized trike while shopping. I'm wondering if some of the obesity problem comes from a "everybody I know looks like this so it's OK if I put on the pounds - I won't stand out" attitude.

That is not where it "comes from" of course, but it has already been shown that people who have overweight FACEBOOK friends are more likely to be overweight. I'm not kidding. When one spouse is overweight, the other is more likely to also have extra weight. Fat cities get fatter. This is well documented, so wonder no more.

Having just returned from two weeks in Japan, I can't help but notice that half the people riding Manhattan public transportation are obese.

If you were in Chicago, you'd shoot yourself. It's like 95% there.

Orange Country CA.

Not much. Thank goodness people here are vain. When I travel to other parts of America they are all over.

I lived in MS once, just outside of Jackson. You should have seen how long the line was at the Honey Baked Ham shop before every holiday.

Boston, MA. I rarely see people who look like they could climb a flight of stairs. But, somehow, they manage. I think of them as my children and their accomplishment makes me proud. I mean that in the least condescending way possible.

I'm also in LA and rarely see it. I notice it more when I travel to other parts of the country. I do however always notice heavy people in amusement parks.

Not a lot of Snorlaxes in Montreal but it's awfully different in Toronto.

Yes, frequently to be seen carrying giant fucking sugary drinks. Or waiting in line at the cake store. And everywhere else.

I see it often in these parts. I also notice it more when I return to the U.S. after being in another country. On one occasion after a 3 week stay out of the country, the return to the Detroit airport was alarming. I noticed the size difference immediately.

I recall that from when I was on a project there. The good thing about NY (and probably Chicago) is that if you go out to a bar, it's more like only 10%. Only semi-attractive people (and me) have the confidence to go out at night.

The girls in the OC are hot for the most part, but it's just unfortunate that so many are fake blondes with plastic surgery.
