Video hits on YouTube - anyone?

Does anyone here have a successful youtube channel (thousands of hits)?

I've got a project for work which requires me to get a lot of video hits - does anyone have any tips as to how I could achieve this?

I have a lot of friends that are majoring in Media and have YT channels. Basically befriend a lot of people on there and they will suggest their subscribers to watch you. Also try to make something fun or original and keep the vids short and frequent.
