modal is rayon.

I have a suit made by John Cutler with a shirt cotton lining. I would not be able to tell the difference from a bemberg lining, except that it seems to wear a little cooler.

I'll post a photo if I get the time.

Looking to get a sports jacket with cotton lining for the main body (Bemberg for the sleeves).  Will be wearing it mainly as a winter casual jacket in hot countries so continuous temp changes from cold malls, hot cars, freezing office, hot sun light etc.  Pocket linings will be a cotton/silk mix for toughness.

Looking for a cooler feel than silk or Bamberg

Just wondering if anyone has tried using super 140 or super 160 high end shirting fabric that is very soft and smooth and how it compared with normal 2ply cotton shirting?

Decided to go for it with a bright pink an d blue stipped lining in 140 cotton from Thomas Mason with bemberg lining for the sleeves.

Pocket linings in a tough silk/cotton mix.

Hopefully more wearable in the airconditioned modern world.

Do Bemberg and the other artificial linings really not breathe that well?

I used a raw type silk to line a linen jacket once including sleeves. Would not use it again. Next time skeleton lining on the back and bemberg for sleeves.

Doable I suppose but not as comfortable as satin.

I have used a fine silk inner for a 1/2 lined jacket with bemberg for the sleeves for a linen jacket.  Seems OK but a little delicate.

would you wear a rayon shirt?

Very approx trade prices for lining per yard

Silk                HKD98

Bemberg        HKD35

Viscose         HKD19

Say you need 2yrds for a jacket and if your tailor makes 60% margin on the fabrics then the prices start to shoot up which becomes hard for the tailor to justify.

Spending HKD500/y for high-end silky smooth cotton lining isn't something many a tailor would consider but giving it a try.  Also a bit of a risk if it turns out terrible to wear.

All my lightweight jackets and suits are fully-lined with Bemberg, and they've never caused me any discomfort. Of course, when you get into the mid 90s and up, any jacket is going to be uncomfortable if worn for protracted periods.

That's the issue.  Office and malls are at 23 Deg C while outside can be 38 Deg C  just not that comfortable.

Having just spent a week in KL a superfine cotton lining does appear to wear much cooler and being so silky does not ride up

Such a lining defeats to purpose of having a lining in the first place. that is to enable the coat to be taken on and off easily. It also does not look as good in my view.

I knew a buyer that did this on a collection. It was a disaster, the suits were very uncomfortable because of the drag caused by the cotton.

No issues with it clinging or riding.  Sleeves lined with bemberg.

I probably depends on the quality of the cotton being used as a liner.
