They should be flying you out.

And if money doesn't seem to be an object I'd be asking for a 6-figure base plus more in commission ... then look at their reactions.

:P

I'd vote for the 35k-40k plus commission and bonus, but it's highly dependent on what they're expecting from you in terms of numbers. If they're expecting 100k, 500k, or 5m in sales, you're looking at very different salaries.

I think you should get a clear understanding of what they're expecting from you before putting any number out there. Ask for a bit more than you think is reasonable. Be prepared for a sub six figure salary though, you're young, with little (right?) work experience, and it sounds like they have had a lot of turnover in this position. If they were offering big bucks, they would have poached some big pharma sales reps by now.

I'm flying out to California on the 14th for an interview and have to pay for my own ticket, but somehow am getting paid for the trial workday.

That's because they think of you as 1% above a kitchen slave. Good luck!

What are you interviewing for?

A hospitality position at a new winery. Would include working in their various dining rooms as a server/sommelier and also in their tasting room among various other things. The best part, the base salary pays double what I made in 2011 before tips and bonus! bounce2.gif

I am crossing my fingers for you, Kyle. You too, mgm.

This seems sensible. And that's probably the least I'm willing to take the job for. I'm probably going to ask them their budget, like Piobaire said, and see what they come back with. They do have to realize that Chicago is not around the corner, so although it's a good opportunity, it has to be worth it for me.

RT to JFK - $325
8 hours at $15/hr = $128

See why they would choose one over the other?

Of course I understand why they'd do it. I never claimed not to.
