Sorry to hear it. I sent mine in fully expecting to pay, but was pleasantly surprised to receive an invoice for $0. Felt a bit guilty about it ... and now even more so!

No, so much the better for you. Mine are going on 12 years now, so it was money well spent. I was just kinda' annoyed that they charged me for something they admitted was the result of poor design.

I only use my canal phones on flights, long train/car rides, or similar situations. Otherwise I use some beater Sennheiser buds for things like commute, gym, and work, which is fine because I want to be able to hear my surroundings or if someone wants to talk to me. This setup also preserves my nicer phones. Haven't bought canals since the ER6i's I've had since '06.

-Bose in-earphones: 6 months (worst purchase ever) -v-moda Vibes: 2+ years... finally crapped out, lasted much longer than they have for the majority of users so I'm glad I got good mileage out of them -Cheap Samsung headphones that came stock with my yp-P2 player: Had them since 2007, barely used them since I went with the two earphones above. I'm going to stick with them and ride them out. If they outlast 2 years I'm never buying earphones for more than $20 again

A lot of them have weak cord attachments, so maybe just consider beefing those up a bit with a bit of heatshrink and glue. A lot of motorcyclists have a similar issue since putting a helmet on pulls at the cord a lot.

I like my NuForce NE-7Ms. They are well built, super-sensitive and have good sound. I think the Etymotic ER-4Ps I had before had better sound, but tons of cord noise and were just sort of fussy on a daily basis. Head Direct RE0s were built like crap, had decent sound.

My Shure e2c have got to be six years old now. I love 'em.

Yes! The only thing not covered on an apple warranty are the headphones, over the past six months i've been through three pairs (I didn't buy them I used spares, and friends spares). The glue holding the cap falls off, or the plastic cracks. They are shockingly made.

It's ridiculous Apple charge £35 for these headphones.

E3C's for ~5 years until I lost them, either left them on an airplane or in an airline lounge. Moved up to Sennheiser SE530's.
