Anyone else have earphones (canalphones) that die after a year?

Why must I buy a new pair of canalphones every 12 months? They crap out so fast. Not cheap either, all mid-level USD 100-250. Shure E2, Shure E3 x2, Denon C700 x2, Kenwood FX500, Klipsch Image X10 etc

Anyone else have this experience?

You must be doing something wrong. I only recently chucked out my buds that I bought in 1990 - some Aiwa buds that I bought for something like 100 GBP because they were won some award in What Hi-fi? or whatever it was. Still using a pair of Shures.

I've had a pair of Etymotics since 1994, and they're still going strong. How are they crapping out? Sometimes ear wax can plug them and make the earphones go completely mute. Usually, you just replace the filters, and they're fine.

I had Shure E2Cs that lasted a good 4 years before the wiring where it bends around my ear finally broke. If I had put some electrical tape around it it probably would still be working now.

Yep. I've gone through any number of earbuds over the years only for them to break within a year. I'm talking Sonys, Shures, V-modas, etc. Sony MDR-EX35LPs are my go-to buds now. Great sound, EXCELLENT bass and cheap enough to replace as needed.

The V-modas I run in generally last about 6-12 months before sweat makes them go buzzy. I just buy them at Costco and bring them back now.

I just tend to break em at some point so I keep it basic now. Some solid sennheiser for workouts/runs and after ruining a few relatively expensive everyday pairs I've just started using the crappy ones apple provides cause I've got like 6 pairs.

Had a few expensive pairs where one channel would stop working or only work with the wire in a certain position. Always seemed to be around a year after I got them. I stick to buying cheap buds now and spend more on full sized phones.

I've lost two pairs of high-end (>$300) earphones within about 6 months of acquisition. The only pair that always seems to be around is the cheap Panasonic one that I got maybe 5 years ago. So I guess I have nothing to add to YF's question...

Haven't had any issues with mine and I've been following the IEM scene since the very beginning when it was just Shure vs Westone vs Ety. Currently alternate between the Westone 3, Westone UM3X and Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro. Hated the way the cords were setup on the Shure E500 (now renamed SE530).

Etymotic just replaced both transducers on my ER4-S's, which I told them were 6 years old and well off warranty, for free. Unbelievable customer service on a great product -- can't recommend them highly enough.

warranty, bro

when the cord to my e2c shorted, i called shure and they sent me not 1 but 2 replacement pairs

the only other pair ive had fail was when a shih tzu thoroughly chewed through my er6i

i used my shure's my e2c's, vmodas and ultimate ears. i do a TON of running and biking and lifting - daily and the sweat just gets to them. my damn cheapo skull candys are truckin along with no issues 4 months so far. I just picked up some sennheiser cx38 - supposed to upholad the sweat

MY friend is an audio buff and he's always saying his earbuds die after a shot period of time. I've had the same white earbuds that came with my iPod for year so I'm not sure what you guys are doing to them, LOL.

I had some ER4-Ss that after about the same time had the wiring unravel near the transducers. They admitted it was due to inferior materials, but they still charged me $50 to repair them.
