Best running socks?

What running socks do you guys use? Thicker versions are preferable to me - just personal preference. I have smaller feet (8.5 shoe size) and have typically found generic athletic socks to be too large.

Balega, come in Small/Medium/Large. You can find these at a running specialty store.

I also like some Adidas ones I have.

The most important thing is to get some have some synthetic fibers in them. You do not want 100% cotton running socks.

My favorite is Balega Enduro. Not too thick, not too thin, and I never get blisters with them. I also use Wrightsock Double Layer ones for warmer days. Not as blister-free as the Balega, but still quite good.

I swear by Under Armour Draft socks. It's all I wear running and they have treated me very well.

Women's no-shows from Target. They have a blue P on them (Performance)?

Are these the ones with the blue pom-pom on the back?

I have some lightweight merino wool ones that are excellent. They're made by Teko.

I like smartwool anklets; they come in sizes, have different weights for different purposes, and perform much better than cotton.

Thanks for all the inputs, guys! I'll pay a visit to Portland Running Co. and see what they have.

Why, I did consider shopping in the women's section. All my dress over the calf argyles are women's socks. I get an excellent fit, the colors are just the same...

They're certainly durable. I wore the same three pairs for several years of running.

Some are thick; others are not. I've worn Thorlo in the past and found the synthetic fiber to be too abrasive, and I don't think they wick moisture away as well as wool based brands.

Ive used really lightweight Nike running socks for years, they seem indestructable.

I'll probably try Injijis next - although they are sorta creepy.

For shoe size 8.5 you should be wearing a medium. Athletic socks come in at least 2 sizes - M, L.

Padded socks will give a bit extra cushioning, and for polyester moisture wicking socks the padding adds more surface area, which makes the wicking work more efficiently.

IMO Wigwam makes the best athletic socks. I have used the Wigwam Ironman running pro for years and they wear great. Made in Sheboygan, WI by people who take old fashioned pride in their work. I think it is still family owned. They private label socks for LL Bean I believe, and probably others as well.

Most brands you see in stores (Smartwool, Adidas, Nike) don't make their own product, so you probably pay more for them. Avoid cotton competely. Wool are great, but most polyester are cheaper and wear much better.

And watch Finding Forrester with Sean Connery for a tip on socks.
