Mongol Fantastic movie about the early years of Genghis Khan. Great cinematography/battles and damned solid acting. I saw some David Lean references when I was reading reviews and I can see where they come from. There's also no rush to the action scenes. the director lets things build slowly.

Not unwatchable, but not their best. I would guess that this movie gets much better upon repeated viewings, much like Lebowski (which I didn't care for at all upon my first viewing).

I simply cannot stand Blood Simple. IMHO, it's their worst. The Man Who Wasn't There is okay, but it's below ASM as well. Those are the only two that I would put below ASM.

I thought I was the only one that didn't enjoy "blood simple". I do see a lack of "The Lady Killers" on your list though, which I think was probably their worst. My faves - Miller's Crossing Oh Brother Lebowski Barton Fink Raising Arizona Hudsucker Fargo Intolerable Cruelty Blood Simple The Lady Killers (havent' seen ASM) And really, everything from Miller's to Fargo is basically a tie, with the others bringing up the rear.

I haven't seen Ladykillers. In some ways you can pretend that it doesn't count since it's a remake. I tend to like Fargo and Arizona more than anything else (yes, that's including Lebowski). I also like Intolerable Cruelty more than most do.

Well - I think Blood Simple and Lebowski are also remakes (the former of a stage play and the latter a loose interpretation of "The Big Sleep")... but I hear ya. And Oh Brother is based on Homer's Odyssey, but that's even more of a stretch.
