Just take a raft. 1.6 million Cuban Americans can't be wrong. Don't have to worry about passport stamps, and you should be able to get a pretty good price on the Key West - Havana route...not a lot of demand for it. Cost you more to go the other way. Budget carriers are always like that. If you are lucky, the coast guard will pick you up on the way back (hint - pack flares), pull your passport out then, and you cruise into Miami in style.

They are if you pay foreigner price, Cuba in general is fairly expensive for visitors, but if you tour a factory and hint you are interested in buying some but don't see the prices as reasonable someone will probably offer to sell you some for less. They will want to meet you in a cafe or somewhere, not actually do it in the factory shop. You will have to buy at least a whole box, and you do have to be careful to spot fakes. To the Op I don't know where you have to fly from but you will be fine on your US passport, I know several US citizens who visited Cuba and have had no problems back home, I believe the Cubans deliberately don't stamp US passports, in general they didn't seem to have too much trouble arranging the whole thing. I have a feeling they used a travel agent who specialised in this sort of thing.

1. Come to Mexico City
2. Change Dollars into Mexican Pesos
3. Go to Mexicana Counter (pay with mexican money)
4. Fly to Cuba and ask no to stamp your passport
