So these scarf that's made of linen and real light and airy, I'm told they are "summer scarf"?

Really? If it's that hot why add another layer?

And don't BS me about it being airy. An unnecessary layer is a hot layer.

If the argument if for pure look alone I can get that, but I don't see the "functional" part.

I think that's all it is.

Summer evenings up here can be just a little cool and I find having just a light scarf keeps the cool breeze off just enough without having to grab a jacket.

And I like the look as you mentioned.

In coastal areas the mornings will often be overcast and a little chilly. linen scarves pair well with a light cotton jacket before the sun breaks through in the afternoon.

Whats the difference between this and adding another layer otherwise known as a sportcoat with 99.9% of people think you're one-layer too many.

There are two ready to wear collections per year, a "summer scarf" is just something from the spring/summer one and usually lighter. You also have SS outwear and whatnot.

A tie has no function, a suit is pretty useless to say nothing of broguing on shoes or pattern or even colour.

Define hot? Around here during the summer it'll range from low 20sC in the morning to mid 40s after mid day. In the evening those 20C temps don't feel hot. It's not unusual to wear a summer pullover. A scarf isn't even close to a sweater and yet you'll find most people with cotton sweaters in various weights.
