The marrow was my favorite dish. We also had the escargot, which I loved, and the pigs ears with bernaise, which were good but not as memorable.

Father's Office I hate this place and it's duchebag owner. The little pipsqueak never once looked me in the eye when talking to me, rushed my girlfriend and I through an order we weren't even taking long for, and rolled his eyes and audibly sighed when we didn't want to open a tab for beer. He looks like he's dressed by MetroPark and his restaurant has an interior that's just as tacky as he is. On top of that, he wouldn't let me get a burger without onions. I had to get my food his way. I can get better service at Carls Jr, and after the meal, apparently the a better burger too. His burger was dry and the congealed onions overpowered everything. The sweet potato fries arnt even done in-house. They just cut open some frozen bag and bake it. There is some asian fusion place in the same shopping subdivision as Father's Office. I urge anyone to go there instead and not even give Father's Office a chance.

I think the asian place you're referring to is Beacon.

I know a few people that hate Father's Office because they won't do substitutions or make any changes on any items on the menu. On the other hand, both locations are always packed, so I wouldn't mind if he drove a few more customers away so I could reliable get a table when I drive across town to go there.

love church and state, though the chef just left. lazy ox downtown is really good, too. had a really remarkable meal a couple of weeks ago at Saam Bar, the private dining room at Jose Andres' Bazaar. quite theoretical and molecular, but terrific flavors ... and a relative bargain for that kind of thing: $95 for a 22-course tasting menu. pizzeria mozza never disappoints and so far neither has bouchon. and as i've said before, if you're near downtown, you really owe it to yourself to give Rivera a try.

Manzke left? That's a bummer. Do you know who's taking his place?

some guy i don't know. it was kind of a fluke that manzke took that job in the first place (he's much more of a fine-dining guy) and it was a minor miracle that he took to it as well as he did. i haven't been back under the new chef, but i really loved the previous version.

Yeah, a few weeks ago. He's looking to open his own place with his wife in downtown. The new guy is from Anisette. My friends just went to C&S over the weekend and said the food is still good, but lots of the dishes they once loved were too salty now. Go figure.

Yes, by the description it would have to be. I don't share Reggs' antipathy for FO, but I really like Beacon, for what it's worth. (Noted for the peanut gallery, since I already know Baron is a fan.)

beacon is a really good deal. i eat there when i'm in the area (usually looking at furniture at buttercup). Kazuto Matsusaka (the chef) was the guy who really put chinois on the map back in teh day. but it's not a real expensive place ... you get get out very nicely for $25 a person.

I'm eating at Osteria Mozza next week.

Toshi Sushi in Japantown is very underrated and a gem of a place for sushi.

You mean Little Tokyo. Closest big Japantown is about 380 miles north.
