Im snacking on some almonds now and thought Id get some ideas on nuts.

I buy bags of crushed walnuts and throw a handful in salads
Add sliced almonds to green beans
Snack on almonds and pistachios and thats about it....

What nuts do you eat and how do you use them when cooking?

Macadamias are "the bomb." Plain or ground up and used as a coating, in desserts or even salads. Pistachio are a lesser bomb, but still awesome. Almonds are great, especially cinnamon dusted or spicy.

I like pecans and cashews. I used to eat a lot of almonds but I grew tired of them.

they are definitely the bomb and decadent nut. wow. lot of calories though.

i love the brazilian nuts. they are good but dont know how to incorporate them into foods as their taste is sort of bitter and an acquired taste.

Chocolate-covered almonds. I'm always surprised by how fast I can blow through a kilo of them. Thank god for my metabolism.

Whenever we order crappy Asian noodle takeout at work, I throw some peanuts over everything and it tends to help a lot.

crushed walnuts over most any salad I make are awesome.

Pine nuts are good for pasta and/or salad.

I like walnuts, too.

Almond butter is the way to add almond to other foods. Blanched, slivered, oil added--they're still too dry and detract from a dish. It's surprisingly good as a careful substitute for swiss cheese or a paste/spread condiment. Superior replacement for peanut butter.

Pecan/hickory/walnut: too oily. They carry an odd mint stink depending on how green/moist they are. Their best use is chopped over salads.

Sunflower seeds aren't a nut, but roasted and salted make a better flavor/nutrition companion to true nuts than do peanuts. Really, what do you get with peanuts? Niacin? Sunflower seeds also go well over salads; maybe chop lightly.

Brazils, cashews, and brined pistachios are so unique they deserve to be eaten as is, and by themselves. Having said so, I agree that brazils are an acquired taste.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_nut: "Brazil nuts were sometimes called 'nigger toes' as late as the 1960s."
