I hate to admit I like this place…. mostly because the head chef/owner used to be a neighbor of mine and he's pretty much a massive dickbag. The one on Sawtelle is always packed with dumb chix and hipsters, but I'll do a burger there once or twice a year.

The fairfax location is so much better. The pastrami was fucking great too, afraid I will have to frequent that place.

They've made it pretty easy lately with multiple locations (DTLA, Fairfax, Sawtelle, and supposedly Santa Monica in the future).

Some good dinner options: Bestia, Faith & Flower, Church & State, Bar Ama.

Cocktail spots: Upstairs (at Ace), The Varnish, Honeycut.

For beer Barrel Down is nice.

Shopping wise, you have Acne, APC, and Tanner within a block of you. 3rd Street in the Arts District has some good stuff, too - Hammer & Spear, Alchemy Works, Apolis, Poketo, etc.

I don't think Eggslut is worth the wait if it's 30+ minutes.  I'd maybe wait 15-20 minutes for it, but Grand Central Market is fun.  Even though you're from PDX, G&B coffee there is good.  I've been to Baco, it was good.  @brooks23's list for dinner seems good (I've been meaning to try all of those).  There's also a new place called Otium next to the new Broad Museum.

For casual you could also do Kazu Nori, Guisados, Mendocino, Panini Grill (however, the last three might be a bit too casual but the food is good).

I really like Baco for a casual/late dinner downtown. Bottega Louie is fun, and you're walking distance from Broken Spanish as well. Won't repeat others' recommendations, which all seem solid to the extent I'm familiar with them.

I continue to be amazed by the ham on the chicken sandwich, best ham I've had and I don't usually like that shit.

The pastrami nosh is pretty incredible too, chunks of it under an egg which is a must imho. They've got 5 ipas, I really enjoyed lizards mouth.

The pickled beets are fantastic as well but I suggest passing on their donuts and just going to sk or dk for donuts.

God dayum @jet maybe need to get you in touch with Ernesto so you can get some inside scope on dat ham and ketchup leather! happy.gif

I'm feeling this question is going to sound ridiculous, but are there any good places for dinner and drinks in Anaheim? LOL. My buddy will be in town for the NAMM show and he's basically stuck there so I need to find a respectable joint for next week.

For those who haven't seen one yet, I had the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich (it was one of today's specials) at Plan Check Sawtelle.  Unlike Kid Nickels, I didn't see any hipsters (but I don't think I know what hipsters look like) or any dumb chix (although I can't tell how smart they are just by looking at them), but I did see several fat boys dressed in black (maybe they were Goths) and wearing ball caps (although they were not ballplayers).......
