laguna has a great history as an art center dating back to the teens (Pageant of the Masters, excluded). they were a real center of california plein air painting.

Not really true anymore. Govan really turned it around. Partially a timing thing with the new building and exhibits opening right as MoCA fired Schimmel and The Hammer lost Garrels.

Wow, I had no idea the cubs did spring training there! Looks like they stopped way back in 1951 though. I've been several times, and it is a lot of fun. Avalon is a cool little town, but if you like the outdoors, there are a few other smaller ports around to check out. Lots of good kyaking/rowing, hiking, scuba, snorkeling, etc.

Anacapa island is a cool place to check out too. There's a lot of nice wildlife, and there is a place called "Dolphin Alley". We went through it at the right time on our boat and were surrounded by hundreds of Dolphins.. definitely one of the more incredible things I've seen.

the cubs were owned by the wrigley family in those days and they owned the whole island as well as lots more (including my neighborhood in Long Beach, which is called Wrigley). their family vacation house, i believe, is now a bnb on the island.

The Channel Islands are all cool in their individual ways. (For those who don't know the geography, Anacapa is the closest of a small cluster of islands off the coast of Ventura.) I've camped on Santa Cruz Island, which is a lot of fun.

Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney has excellent coffee, but the lines are stupid. I only go if I'm taking an early morning walk and can beat the crowds.

Hi friends,

What must I do near the Beverly Hilton? Mid June.

I enjoy good cocktails, coffee, cheap food.

Well you can get coffee… good cocktails, cheap food in BH? … lol.

Seriously, though what do you mean near? Only within walking distance or will you be driving?

Haha well I assumed and hoped.. I won't have a car and will only be in town on business for 2 days. First time to LA and likely won't be back for awhile.

I literally know nothing about the city so any recommendations are greatly appreciated. I would much rather get some pointers from you guys as opposed to browsing yelp and the likes...

If you are in town only a few days, you might not have much time to drive around, as the traffic can be a hassle.  That area is always hard to get around.  What type of food are you looking to eat?
