Most overrated Los Angeles restaurants?

I'm bored. I'll start. These ones are in my neighborhood or close by, came highly recommended, and (in my opinion) failed to deliver upon multiple visits:

Cafe Stella
Taix
Tacos Delta
Umami Burger
The Fix
Square One
Barbrix

Given that none of those are all that well-known to outsiders...

I'd have to go with Spago. It's arguably the first place to make it's chef a celebrity and its just ok. CUT makes a nice piece of beef though!

sorry. i posted this kind of as a follow up to a thread in sw&d, but i totally agree about spago. would be happy to hear takes on overrated LA restaurants of international renown too.

Totally disagree, great place. Spago is indeed not as good as claimed, though it's still pretty damn good. Providence in LA is fantastic, one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

pinks is horseshit, but i think tommys is pretty good. they'd be on the list too if they had an hour and a half wait

Roscoes - I get that it's a fun combo, but I've had better fried chicken and better waffles. You don't get points for putting two mediocre ingredients on the same plate. I had lunch at La Scala which was good, but I felt like it was much more about the scene than the food.

What a sad list. Stella is more of a scene - a place to drink more than a place to eat. Nobody thinks Taix is good, but the bar is a good place to watch Laker or Dodger games and they have a nice wine list. Tacos Delta is about as mediocre as Mexican gets on the east side (I can't believe someone actually directed you there). I haven't been to the Fix but the other places are fine for what they are. I don't think they're highly rated enough to be overrated.

The Japanese restaurants like Nobu, Matsuhisa, Katsuya, etc.

Do you feel those are all overrated, or overpriced? Keep in mind, we don't all get to Japan very often, and Nobu is not exactly traditional Japanese cuisine. I quite liked the Nobu in Malibu, despite not enjoying the other locations I had tried.
