This is in no way a slam on Indians or their cuisine, as I have found well-prepared Indian food to be a delight. However, the pungency and longevity of curry is not to be taken lightly.

Case in point, I once accidentally dropped a jar of powdered curry seasoning from the cabinet. The jar shattered and extravagantly disgorged its contents across the wooden floor. Not thinking, I grabbed the central vacuum hose and sucked up the curry powder in a moments' foolishness. Big mistake. The curry powder coated the inside of the vacuum hose, the vacuum pipes leading to the central canister, and even back-flowed out of the central vac outlets in some of the other rooms of the house.

After changing the filter, sucking up baking soda, baby powder, lavender flowers and several other substances in a vain attempt to clear the stench, my house still smelled of curry for a good week. Even to this day, more than a year after the incident, the central vac outlets still emit the faintest scent of curry when they are opened. Potent, scary stuff...

I take off my jacket and leave it in the car whenever I go to an Indian buffet, even in the middle of December if the temperature is only 40 degrees(luckily it doesn't go lower than that in California).
