Egypt - Israel

Me and a friend of mine, we are planning to attend an Arabic language course next summer, so we have decided to stay for a month in Cairo.
We will visit some other places in Egypt together but the course is sunday to thursday, so we do not know yet which places would be the best choice for "weekend brakes", I mean, it is really possible for instance going to luxor and come back in 3 days?

After the course I will spend just on my own a few days (on the way to Israel) in Sinai, probably Dahab and some scuba diving.. But my big issue now is entering Israel via Taba. I know it is not a problem at all, but some friends have told me it can be overwhelming and frustrating entering Israel with an egyptian stamp, plus a turkish, moroccan and syrian one in my passport.
My way back home is through Tel Aviv airport and being rejected and loosing the flight will make my trip a real misery no doubt....

I cant speak specifically about entering Israel via Taba, but I have had a run in at CDG in Paris on my way to Tel Aviv. It started with Israeli Security saying they found my name on tickets to Cairo and ended with me being strip searched. So I would imagine you wont be greeted with a smile after they see your Syrian, Turkish and Egyptian stamped passport.

That said, eventually I was allowed to enter, my luggage was held up for 12 hours though which was the worst of it.

Traveling is an adventure, and while being strip searched wasnt the most amusing part of that tour, it turned out to be a great story.

You will almost certainly be held up either on your way in to Israel or your way out. Possibly both. Sorry.

Truth. Israel does NOT joke around with their national security. I would avoid the hassle.

yes, but that doens't mean you wont make your flight. give yourself time, maybe as much as 4 hours, and tell the absolute truth - don't think that lying about some little thing will make your life easier, trying to lie will simply make the whole process more painful. but if you aren't a terrorist you have nothing to worry about.

as to Egypt - weekend trips include luxor and alexandria, but you could probrably spend 2 weekends just in cairo and the area.

read up well on ancient egypt - frankly the guides at the museum and the archeological sites aren't very good, a few good books will prepare you very well to understand what you are seeing
