Mystery Knee Injury

I am usually pretty good at self-diagnosing these things, but no luck here.

I have a pain just below my knee joint on the medial (inside) side. It's a mild pain walking, and running on it is impossible. It's very tender if I apply pressure to the spot.

Ive ruled out the usual suspects of knee pain (pateller tendinitis, meniscus tear, bursitis,) because the origin of the pain seems just too low. It's just below the actual joint, at the top of the tibia.

Possible stress fracture? I first felt it after running, then it got much worse after doing cleans. There is the slightest bit of visible swelling, but it's subtle.

Medial collateral injury? Probably just built up inflammation.

I also wouldn't rule out a meniscus tear.

That would be on the outside of the knee.

I've had this before... most likely your rectus femoris is tight so it pulls on your tendon causing pain and inflammation... I've had great results with active release (A.R.T.) and graston. If you find a good A.R.T. guy he'll know what to do, and it's usually (depending on the severity) about 2 -3 visits and you'll be good. *Note: this is just my personal experience
