Which of the actors that portrayed james bond was the best?

George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.

I excluded Sean Connery because he is the original and arguably the best

IBP.

And, by saying Sean Connery is "arguably" the best you admit that others may disagree, so he shouldn't be excluded.

Despite my avatar, Dalton because his take was closest to the Fleming literary character.

Worst was Brosnan.

I wish Moore played Bond more like he played the Saint.

They originally wanted Roger Moore, but he was busy with The Saint, so they had to "settle for" Sean Connery. Lucky for us.

Roger Moore was great as The Saint, but just too squeaky clean for Bond. Still, I think Octopussy made Moore a pussy.

The 007 series should have ended decades ago. The last few movies were really sad.

Brosnan (including Connery), but Dalton was underrated.

Dalton.

Craig has been a badass Bond. Quantum was a letdown but Casino Royale was one of the best I've seen.

Last few = Brosnan films with the exception of Goldeneye

The first Bond movie I saw as a child was Live and Let Die, and it's still my favorite Bond movie. Gonna have to go with Roger Moore.

Those weren't really his fault. He wasn't the one who wrote the cheesy sci-fi angles and ridiculous one liners.

Connery, then Craig.

While I liked that the Dalton films were aiming for grim and gritty, Dalton himself always strikes me as kinda planklike. Good at looking angry, not so good at selling the charm. To be fair, he was dragged down by his scripts. The best they could come up with is a drug dealer with a lizard? Really?

He was wasted in his recent Doctor Who appearance as well.

I agree with this. I think Brosnan fit the part quite well. The problem was the scripts he was given. Craig is great though. And I loved Casino Royale but it seems like they're already jumping the shark again with QoS. Building underground dams on a scale large enough to cause a huge drought for an entire country is about as realistic as having a satellite in space that can melt finland.

Craig has been a much more physical Bond, which I do think is good, but Brosnan was a smooth mfer.

+1. I am looking forward to his third film.

Connery and then Craig. Connery set the gold standard for the cool international spy/ladies man to whom everyone will be compared - forever! But Craig has a look and attitude that work for me.
