Any watchmakers on the forum......

My interest in watches has carried over to my desire to become a moderately competent watchmaker (in my free time, certainly not a career change). I'm planning on taking some classes at a local watchmakers school and have already spent a cool G on only the most basic tools to get me started (tools are very expensive). My interest was piqued by strolling through local antique marts and finding beautiful turn of the century pocketwatches that were not running being sold for 20-50 bucks a piece. Of the ten or so I have purchased, I have about 6 of them running again. Its hard to describe but its a great feeling when you assemble a movement and see the balance wheel start to rotate on its own.

Just wondering if we have any amateur watchmakers on the forum.

I can't even change a strap on a watch but I love mechanical watches. I have some see through case back watches and I love looking at the heart beat of the watch!
I guess you already know this but here is a useful website for watch tools, movements and such.

Yep have seen that site. I am actually quite lucky since there is a watchmakers school at the NAWCC HQ in columbia PA and a horological supply shop about 20 min outside of lancaster. Owner is a really nice guy with better prices than most online sites.

I was unaware of this NAWCC school or the supply shop. I live overseas but am back in Carlisle PA at least once a year. I wouldn't mind taking a watchmaking course at some point. You have any details handy?
