Wearing a dress watch with casual clothes

I have a watch that I really like, but it is clearly a dress watch. I'd like to wear it with khakis and a sweater or khakis and a blazer -- maybe even with nice dark jeans and a sweater -- but I'm not sure if it would look awkward. It's a Rolex Prince, the one in the photo. Should I just save it for dressy occasions?

I'll wear a dress watch with casual clothes but I won't wear a sport watch with dress clothes.

I wear my dressy watch with more casual clothes all the time. The only reason I don't wear it with short sleeves is because I don't want it getting scratched and dinged.

To be honest, I'd wear that with t-shirt and jeans, as it is not a fully classical watch (no complications etc). I've worn dressier with t-shirts, such as Zenith class elites, etc - I think that could be worn on all but the dressiest (black tie) occasions, or for actively engaging in sport.

From my point of view a fully classical watch should be without complications, period. It should have only the hours, minutes, and that's it ... not even seconds.

Save that watch for your Beetlejuice Halloween costume.

+1 for simple dress watches

Think Bauhaus.

In answer to your question, your watch would be okay for casual situations because it doesn't strike me as particularly "dressy." It's too busy/gaudy IMHO.

^^^ Well as the saying goes ... It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle ... than for a Rolex to be worn discreetly.

its very busy but I think it's executed well... actually im a fan of the watch. a little flashy but I wouldn't say to the point of being gaudy. I think that term gets thrown around too much as of late.

I would save it for dressier occasions. get yourself a nice diver to wear with khakis/jeans and blazer.

Some of the simpler Datejust models aren't overly flashy. But when you start adding diamonds in place of numbers, that is more than a bit much.

Right, like anyone even notices a datejust. I'd probably chose a JLC Reverso over the above watch, but i like Rolexs alot.

Pretty well said. Perhaps not to the point of gaudy, but the wearer is definitely trying to make a "Hey l$$k at me!" statement. I don't find it elegant. But to each his own.

As a watch person ... I often notice what watch a person is wearing. If it's a Rolex, I usually assume that the person is new to watches or is one who doesn't really care (or know much) about watches. The Rolex movements I've seen (more than a few) were poorly finished. But I'll admit ... I haven't looked at one in over ten years. But I saw enough thirty years ago to know it wasn't a watch for me.

The JLC Reverso is my favorite model ... and the watch I choose to wear most often.

I also prefer simple dress watches, without any complications whatsoever. The OP's watch looks to me to be ideally suited for casual wear, not dress wear.

That's a great looking watch. It looks versatile enough to wear with a casual dress.
