Yeah, I know the weather is supposed to be shitty for the week I'm here, but I'd like some suggestions on some good places to see. recommendations on good coffee shops and bars (not clubs) would be most appreciated.

Hit up Zig Zag -- Murray Stenson is one of the best Barkeeps in the country. I'd rec Vessel also, but I don't know how it is since Jamie Boudreau left.

for amazing food, go to Dick's (there is one on the Ave, one near blue ridge/ballard and one on broadway).
make sure you order a burger (obviously) but accompany it with a milkshake and their fries. omg. im salivating just thinking about being back in seattle for this.

For coffee shops, most of the famous ones will be on Capitol Hill: Vitta, Vivace, Victrola. In the downtown area there is Caffe Darte on Stewart near the market.

The White Horse is a small fun bar in the market place, check it out if you're by in the evening. Suite 410 is also okay, though more trendy - it's hidden on the middle of Stewart street and is mostly unmarked so you have to watch closely (visit on a weekday night for happy hour).

Shopping can vary wildly depending on your tastes.

For food in the downtown area: Le Pichet, Macrina Bakery, Txori, Bisato, Serious Pie, Palace Kitchen

First off, DO NOT go to Dick's unless you are drunk. Red Mill Burgers are outstanding though, go there if you get a chance. Walk around Pike Place, tons of places to eat. It has the first Starbucks there which is kinda cool. The White Horse is a good suggestion, check out Kell's too its an Irish Pub that can be a lot of fun. For places to shop make sure to check out Ian, and Blackbird (Ballard).

Caffe Darte has my favorite espresso in Seattle, and thus in North America. I had to go to Sydney to find better. Ahh, to be so spoiled as to just be able to walk by it and grab an espresso...

I just got back from El Gaucho, downtown. Very cool place, and we had banana foster made for us right at the table!

Hah El Gaucho is great, but not exactly native to Seattle. For a quality meal go to any of these: Metropolitan Bar and Grill Palasade Salty's on Alki Daniel's Broiler Anthony's Any of those are going to beat El Gaucho.

The first thing one does when he rolls into Seattle is look up Slim. Anything else is simply wrong.

I just got back from Palisades. Fucking amazing. They know their wine, too!

Here's a tip: fuck the space needle, go to the observation deck on the 40-something floor of the Columbia tower (tallest building there, sleek and black) for a better view for only 5 bucks.

The original El Gaucho opened in Seattle back in the 50's.

I've been told Canlis is a step above Palisades, but I'm not sure it's a big enough step to justify the price.
