I was at best buy yesterday and Samsung has launched a line of 3D TV's. Apparently you need to get a 3d-ready TV, a 3d ready Blu-Ray player and 3d glasses (all in about $3,500 to start.) So far there's only 1 title designed for 3d blu-ray, (Disney's Monsters vs Aliens) and Avatar isn't even going to be released on 3D Blu-ray. I watched a few minutes, and it looked cool, but it was more a novelty than anything else. There's talk of broadcasting sporting events like the world cup in 3D.
The obvious downside is those stupid little glasses, you have to have one for each person or they can't watch the movie, and they're uncomfortable to wear, plus the price tag. Some analysts are speculating that there is already too much consumer fatigue when it comes to upgrading to pricey flat screen tv's and blu-rays over the last few years, so they won't be prepared to splash out another couple of grand to get 3d-HDTV.
