Hi, I have a skin problem that I wish to see if anyone knowledgeable here can help me with trying to alleviate it or at least try to understand it. It is a local area on my forehead. I dont have a history of bad acne or chronic acne, my face is usually clear. But this small area the size of a dime (now has grown to about the size of two dimes) is constantly there, it is sort of like, under my skin? the pores are enlarged on that spot, and the area can get red sometimes and it itches. it doesnt pus out anything, there is no outlet for any fluid from that area (meaning, if i scrub it daily with cleansers, it doesnt seem to do anything to it, because it seems to be under my skin?). and when it kind of flares it does look like i got hit on the forehead with something or a little area of bad acnefied skin. this is cyclical though, and every week or two it then settles, and it looks sort of clear, but if you look close up, you can still make out the enlarged pores and outlining area. every 10 days or so it comes back flares up and itches, and then 5-7 days later it kind of goes dormant again. this has been going on for since 2003. ive tried all sorts of acne cleansers and medications over the counter. nothing works. it doesnt even influence it one bit . ive tried some mud wash (clay?) washes on the area, to no avail. ive been to the dermatologist (recommended one in the area by the way) and all he could do was say it may be vascular (meaning it is a flare up of vessels underneath, but i know it is not, ) and he prescribed to me some cream (desonide cream?) but it hasnt really helped either. ive been trying to webmd it, google it and so forth for the past 2 years and all i can perhaps think of is , maybe it is some fungus trapped underneath the skin or is it some kind of a viral infection? i try not to touch it (however during 2003 and 2004 i did touch it alot, scratch it accidentally and so forth, but never really minded it until about 2 or 3 years ago when i finally noticed, hey, why is this thing still on my forehead? im at my wit's end, and im not sure if i want to keep trying to go to different dermatologists or if i should get a biopsy? the doctor didnt recommend it since it would leave a permanent mark on my forehead he said. i dont know what else to write, as i dont know what else to say, but if you have any questions i can try to answer it. maybe i can post a photo or two later as well. just thought maybe sf can have some answer. thanks. --- the first few years it was always the local size of a dime, but in recent years 2008 and to now, it has spread a little , gone up a bit ,and sideways towards my eyebrows a bit so i say it is a size of two dimes.

thank you for your replies. i will see if i can provide photos and more detail tonite.
im not sure if it is a cyst, but that sounds interesting. it doesnt leak anything and no fluids ever come out of it. isnt a cyst usually a semi soft or hard solid suspended underneath the skin? there is nothing underneath the skin as in terms of any solid, it is mostly just within the skin layer, not an entity underlying the skin layer.
i dont think it is rosacea. although i did look into that. one thing i think i know of rosacea is that the inflammation is dependent upon factors like food, emotions, strenuous exercise, and temperarture changes, but none of that stuff (none, i have examined all conditions to see what inflames it) triggers it on me. only thing it is independently and stubbornly cyclical. every 10 days it disappears with some remnants , then reappears for like 7-10 days. all 7 years constantly. no matter the season, no matter the stress in my life, no matter my diet change or exercise routine.
but i dont know maybe i need to know more about it

It sounds like nummular eczema. Apply hydrocortisone cream to the area twice a day. If it does not clear up, then there's the risk of it being ringworm, which is simply a fungus infection of the skin - much like athlete's foot. Treatment then would be a cream like Lamisil. I'd try the hydrocortisone cream first, because the antifungal cream can be irritating if it is not a fungus infection. HOWEVER, because of the inherent immunosuppressant quality of hydrocortisone, a ringworm infection can actually become worse - so stop that cream, if this happens, and start the Lamisil.

sounds like something I had a couple years ago.
it would flare up (redness, inflammation, itching) every other week like clockwork, and i could always tell when it would start by the itching. doctor prescribed prescription strength hydrocortisone (the regular off the shelf stuff wasn't strong enough), as someone mentioned above, and it seemed to keep the inflammation and itching down if I applied it before the redness set in.
anyway, I was told that there wasn't a "cure," but it eventually disappeared by itself after 2-3 years.

If you can try to provide a picture, that can help us to see what exactly is wrong. Besides getting red/itchy, is there inflammation? does it hurt? I would suggest tamanu oil for you, it is a natural remedy (I know...natural remedies are blasphemous and are only for hippies but they do work). Tamanu oil has great skin healing properties. It is proven to reduce scars among many other skin-related illnesses, if you want, try it out and see if it works. It is a bit expensive because the fruit that is used to produce this oil is very limited.

im not sure, but i think perhaps some of the otc remedies i used over the past years may have had some of this ingredient in it. i will look for a stronger one.

thanks. havent had a good picture yet, because my camera really doesnt take my skin (up close ) very well in flash, and without flash, yo ucant really see it. (also because it is in its dormant cycle sort of). im afraid to put any kind of oil on it (besides my natural skin oils) but i will look into that as well.
thanks for all the tips greatly appreciated
