I need some suggestions on how to decorate/theme this house. In the living room it has a 2 floor ceiling. I am going to be renovating this dining/living room, minor in the kitchen and minor in the bathrooms . I want to make it modern but still classic, I don't want it too modern so that it can be easily dated. I want to buy furniture that will make the house looked stages as I will be using the furniture to stage future places. The house is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
You can't really see from the pictures but the dining room has as regular ceiling and closer to the big window it is open 2 floors with a den overlooking it. I plan on making this an accent.
upstairs den overlooking the living room. I am thinking of making it more of a room by either:
1. Putting up walls and making it a room
OR
2. Putting book shelves up as dividers and making it into a temporary room.
I also need furniture. I am thinking of a couch something similar to this...but in a neutral color. I want something with a low back so that it makes the space look large in comparison.
Any suggestions or any suggestions to forums/blogs?

OR Barn doors that can be easily opened and closed off. Also, I can put them up temporarily and take them off when I move.
