New car ordered...now the wait begins

Just ordered an Audi S4. I am totally psyched, as I love driving but have never had such a fun/powerful ride (I've had a '97 Nissan Maxima since I started driving in 2004). Manual tranny, black on black, with the rear sports differential that is supposed to make the car handle like a RWD when doing so is beneficial to performance.

But now I have to wait two months to get it.

Nice car, enjoy the wait.

Very nice car. Why does it take 2 months?

Beats me...They're only allocating ~750 for Canada, and since mine is a special order (i.e. I'm not buying what's on the lot or already on the way), it's got to be built in Germany and shipped over. But two months seems like a long time, regardless. I was told "end of May."

They must be building the car by hand. A hand made car.

Niiiiice. 2 months is nothing... you'll be picking it up before you know it.

When I ordered my M3, I placed the order in January, but build wasn't until April, and then with the shipping and Performance Center delivery scheduling, I couldn't get it until the end of May. That was a killer wait.

I can imagine; I'd go nuts. I really hate waiting for stuff I really want.

I've already got my eyes on an M3 as my next car...trading in an S4 in 3-4 years should make for a nice downpayment or at least lighten my out-of-pocket expenses. Although the RWD concerns me.

They didn't offer an opportunity to pick it up at the factory (on their dime)?

If you absolutely can not wait, maybe consider European delivery.
You'd pick it up a month or so sooner, drive around Europe for a little while then ship the car and meet it at the port in Canada and drive home. It's faster and a great way to get to know your new car

Hmmmm...that sounds pretty cool actually. Especially since I am planning a Europe trip this summer. How does this work, exactly?

Did you go with Drive Select?

No....packaging in Canada is retarded. I'm going with the base, not premium, and drive select can only be added as an option the the premium model (ditto with Carbon Atlas trim and B&O sound system). I did get the rear sports differential, though.

Didn't feel like paying $5k for a premium model just so I can pay more for the features I wanted.

Great choice! At least some people on here have good taste.

Not sure how Audi does it, but you just talk to your dealer, and they should set it up with Audi AG and their customer relations people should give you a call and send you info on setting up a pick-up date with the factory tour, at least that's how BMW typically did their Euro deliveries. There's some paperwork they have to take care of with registering the car and getting plates there so you can drive it around, and then setting up the date when you want to drop the car off at the port for shipping. Definitely ask your dealer about that ASAP if you're looking into it since all that has to be worked out and your travel plans to the EU made over the next few weeks.

The luxo makers have greatly cut down production. It took two months for my MB to come in, and we just put my name on a unit that had already been in the que a month earlier. While the wait sucks, isn't it great to get your vehicle built to spec? Everything you want and nothing you don't.
