I was suggested him as a friend too. I wanted if it is based on what you are a "fan of". For example, I am a fan of "A Suitable Wardrobe" and maybe Mahon is as well. From my experience there doesn't have to be much of a connection to get something suggested to you.

I'm part of a Facebook supporting the work of Anthony Delos...

It is a different concept supporting someone's work than wanting to be their friends...

The all friendship etiquette is wrong on Facebook anyway...

They can target ads/friend&group suggestions based on age, gender, location, interests, where you studied, job etc

I imagine you are their targeted demographic and they paid a few cents when you click on their name.

Not only what the person above me said, but Facebook also utilizes sophisticated text mining of all messages (IM, Facebook message, wall posting).

They have become very good a mining user information.

Maybe your demographic profile and, mostly important, your ads relevance profile fits with thomas mahon, if a friend of yours has subscribed a certain group you can be a target for messages/ads.
The algorithms of most important social networks are really complex and their ability to tie data from so different sources and extract patterns for every user is astonishing.
