Wanted to link to the studio demo of Loudon Wainwright's "Motel Blues" that was in last year's box set, but all the links are down it looks like. Probably my favorite Chilton/Big Star track. Check it out on iTunes.

I saw Chilton and his trio perform at the Cooper-Young street fair in Memphis during the summer of 1999. He was wonderful and even performed Michael Jackson's "Rock with You".

Thanks for all you did, Alex. Rest in peace.

+ 1 Like most, I got into Big Star after hearing The Bangles, The Replacements and other US indie bands cite them as an influence. From there I learned to appreciate The Box Tops. His solo stuff ... not so much. A sad day for pop indeed.
