Mercedes CLS Class

I am considering upgrading to a CLS63 from a CLS500. I want more balls to the car. Let me say I love the CLS class. Any AMG owners care to convince me to lay out another 30k for the same car? Worth it?

Performance wise: Definently

Daily Driver wise: Definently

Reliability/Maintanance wise: HELL NO

My dad had CLS63 for a while and we had a few "costly" issues. The main thing (pursuming that your buying a used one) is to check its service history and if possible, get an extended warranty.

-Supercharger shutdown after short WOT passes
-Defective oil pump
-Rear Air Suspension failure

Maybe you should settle for a E60 M5 if your looking for more performance out of a luxury vehicle.

CLS63 is a beast man! While the non amg C219 is a great car there really is no comparison. The engine has more HP, is hand built by one engineer. You get the BBK, suspension and exhaust upgrades, better seats If you want brand new, you may want to wait a bit though b/c there is a new CL55 TT coming out towards the end of this year. It'll be easier to tune than the 6.2 engine in the current model not to mention much torquier I used to own an E55 and currently a W211 E500. While both cars are great, there is really no comparison between AMG and MB's offerings. Of course, be prepared to replace brakes and rotors every 20k miles or so!

Thanks for the input gents. Yes, I am looking at preowned, mostly '08s. My '06 CLS500 is a sturdy beast, but I have experienced some small (and one large) electronic snafu. I got it CPO'd from MB dealership directly... and the CLS63 I am looking at is the same. I would be trading the 500 in for the 63 at the same dealership. The CL class is nice, but I need a 4 door to put my daughter in the back (9 mos. old) if need be. J'aimelescravates said exactly what I wanted to hear though, that there is no comparison. To the untrained eye, they could be misconstrued for the same car, but I want to feel my balls blasted to the back of the seat when I nail the pedal. The 500 is great once it gets there, but off the line there is a considerable delay in pickup.

The CLS has a completely new body style coming out in 2011. http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1...cedes-benz-cls In addition, there is the new AMG TT-V8. http://www.insideline.com/mercedes-b...iturbo-v8.html If you can wait, you can see if you want the new model or the older one. Usually the older one takes a big depreciation hit once the new body style comes out. I haven't driven the CLS but I have compared the E550 vs E63. The E550 pulls and is plenty fast but is not as raw as the E63. The 63 really pushes you back into your seat and roars. I like the low end rumble of the 63 engine a lot more; the 550 engine is quite silent in comparison. My understanding is that this is likely the last big block natural aspirated engine MB will make b/c of EU CO2 regulations making the efficiency of forced-induction the way to go in the future.

man those spy shots of the new CLS you see this first pic, and you think man they ruined it: then you see this second pic, and you think "well, could be worse i guess": then you see this: and you think hell yeah, there's the ostentatious "coupe" i know and love

Im not convinced on the nose of the new CLS (or in general). Its that modern/throwback look that Im not jiving. That said, I didnt like the new SL nose for '10 but now I love it. The 2011 CLS ass is fine as shit though, thats for sure. When do those come out so I can look for the '09s to plunge?

They're slated for 2011 so towards the end of this year they should start appearing on lots

Side note: I saw that new SLS at a car show a couple weekends ago...one of the first in the country... and it is a beautiful car. I have a couple of pics if anyone wants to see them I'll make a new thread.

I considered the 456 as they are less than 100k. But decided I can't depend on a 10 yo stallion as a daily driver. But V12 sound -
